Typhoon Bualoi brings rain, floods in Vietnam, causing death of twelve people
Nine fatalities occurred in Ninh Binh province, with the remaining three reported in Thanh Hoa, Hue, and Da Nang, as stated by reports. Additionally, 17 fishermen went missing after losing contact with three fishing vessels.
Although the storm has moved inland, the National Hydrometeorological Agency warned that the threat of heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides remains high in the coming days, according to reports. In Hue city, at least one person died after being swept away by floodwaters, while 12 fishermen remain missing after four boats were overturned by massive waves off Quang Tri province.
As of 8 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), the typhoon was over Nghe An province, with maximum wind speeds weakening to 88 kilometers (54 miles) per hour from 117 kilometers (72 miles) per hour at landfall, as stated by reports.
The weather authority cautioned about the risk of widespread flooding from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh and highlighted a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the western communes of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh. Localized flooding is also possible in the southern part of the Northern Delta due to heavy rainfall.
Authorities evacuated nearly 30,000 residents ahead of the typhoon, and hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed as four airports in central provinces were temporarily closed, according to reports.
